In the 2012, 2013 and 2015 NFL Drafts, three players, in each selection process, were selected from the NFL Regional Combine platform. In the 2016 NFL Draft, four players were selected, making this year’s draft a landmark event for the RC scouting stage.
Wide receiver Trevor Davis (California) and linebacker Jatavis Brown (Akron) went in the fifth round. To wrap up the sixth-round, wide receiver Mike Thomas (Southern Mississippi) and linebacker Kamu Grugier-Hill (Eastern Illinois) were tagged.
Thomas was selected by the Los Angeles Rams with the 206-overall pick. Thomas possesses 4.4 speed, great ball skills and will fit comfortably with the talented core of pass catchers in Los Angeles.
Thomas attended the New Orleans-held session, where he displayed great athleticism.
Grugier-Hill can play as a safety as well. When he participated in the RC at the Minnesota-held session, Grugier-Hill was listed as a safety, where he displayed elite speed, power and solid ball skills.
Grugier-Hill’s versatility will eventually prove to be vital for the New England Patriots, who selected him with the 208th-overall selection.
The 2016 NFL Draft is proof that dreams can come true through the intense process of the NFL Regional Combine.
