The San Francisco 49ers signed cornerback Perrish Cox to a two-year deal Tuesday, according to the team’s press release.
Cox, 25, played his collegiate ball at Oklahoma State University and was originally a fifth round (137th overall) selection of the Denver Broncos in the 2010 NFL Draft. Cox has played in 15 games (9 starts) as he registered 54 tackles, two forced fumbles, one interception and ranked third among NFL rookies with a team-high 14 passes defensed, in 2010.
“We are pleased to add Perrish to our team,” said 49ers General Manager Trent Baalke, via team’s press release. “As an organization, from ownership on down, we have done our due diligence and are confident that Perrish will be a positive contributor to the 49ers, as well as our community.”
The 6-0, 198-pound defensive back has flourished as a special teams’ player as he made four tackles and returned nine kickoffs for 172 yards.
In December of 2010, Cox was arrested for sexual assault. He was acquitted of those charges in early March.
The 49ers announced Monday that they have tendered one-year contracts to exclusive rights on free agent cornerback Tramaine Brock and restricted free agent linebacker Larry Grant.
Brock was originally signed by the 49ers as an undrafted rookie free agent in 2010. The Belhaven University 5-10, 197-pound graduate seen action in 14 games and two postseason contests during his two-year NFL career as he recorded 14 tackles and two interceptions.
Brock, 23, has been a solid contributor on special teams for the 49ers, totaling five tackles.
Grant was selected in the seventh round (214th overall) by the 49ers in the 2008 NFL Draft. The Ohio State Buckeye rejoined the 49ers in 2011 after spending the previous three seasons with the St. Louis Rams.
Grant played in all 16 games (3 starts) and both postseason contests last season, setting a career-high in tackles with 30, while registering two sacks and one forced fumble. The 6-1, 251-pound linebacker has played in 50 games (11 starts) during his four-year NFL career, and posted 62 tackles, five sacks, four forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries.
Grant, a native of Santa Rosa, CA, has made an impact on special teams, as he posted 10 tackles in 2011.
