The Cincinnati Bengals’ 2012 preseason schedule was released Wednesday by the NFL, and they will be featured in a nationally televised game at Atlanta against the Falcons. Cincy has home games scheduled against two playoff contending teams in the New York Jets and Green Bay Packers, with a finale against the Indianapolis Colts who will feature a high-profiled rookie quarterback in either Andrew Luck or Robert Griffin III.“We’re excited with the lineup we have and we think our fans will enjoy it,” said Bengals executive vice-president Katie Blackburn, via team’s press release. “It should help generate high interest for our young team that reached the playoffs last season. Our home games are a nice complement to what we feel is a very attractive list of regular-season home opponents.”
The last time the Bengals opened their preseason at home was in 2006. This season, they will welcome the Jets, who reached the 2009 and 2010 AFC Championship games. The date and kickoff time are to be announced, but the contest will be played between Aug. 9 and 13, the first preseason weekend.
Dates and kickoff times are presently set only for national TV games, and the Bengals’ matchup against the Falcons, a FOX network broadcast, will be on Thurs., Aug. 16 at 8 p.m. The Falcons has been one of the most successful teams in the NFL and experienced winning records for four consecutive seasons, making the playoffs in three of those, including last season with a 10-6 record.
In Week 3 of the NFL preseason, the Bengals return to Paul Brown Stadium to face the Packers and in Week 4, the Bengals will journey to Indianapolis for the final exhibition game of the 2012 season.
This will be the Bengals 20th preseason meeting against the Colts in the last 21 years.
The Jets, Packers and Colts games will be televised, locally, on the Bengals Preseason TV Network, including Cincinnati’s Local12 (WKRC-TV). All four games will be on the Bengals Radio Network, led by Cincinnati flagships WCKY-AM (ESPN 1530) and WEBN-FM (102.7).
